Advice and News, Hints & Tips •
As we are approaching the summer months here in Brisbane, many people are turning towards their trusty air conditioner, for some much needed respite – especially at night!
Getting a good night’s sleep is often difficult during summer in Brisbane, and a trusty air conditioning system can provide the relief needed so you can feel your best the next day. There are a few things to be aware of when using air conditioning in the bedroom and the air conditioning experts here at H&H Air Conditioning explain these below.
The Right Size
To effectively cool a bedroom, a smaller unit is usually sufficient. Dependent on the size of the room, will determine the output you need. Below is a rough guide to choose a split system air conditioner.
SPACE | 20 sqm | 30 sqm | 40 sqm | 50 sqm | 60 sqm |
Kilowatts Needed | 2.8kW | 4.2kW | 5.6kW | 7.0kW | 8.4kW |
A Quiet System
As well as the right sized system for a bedroom environment, the quietness of the system is essential. These are usually measured in decibels and all new systems display this as a Sound Power Level. The higher the number, the louder the system will be. It’s also worth considering if the outdoor unit will be placed close to neighbouring homes, since this could this could impact noise regulations for Air Conditioners in Brisbane
Placement of the Unit
Air conditioning units in the bedroom should ideally be placed to the left or right of one of the sides of the bed rather than directly above the bedhead or on the opposite wall facing the bed. This is to prevent cool air being dumped directly onto you while in bed, which can too breezy and result in a dry throat in the morning. Placement of the unit should be in a space where cold air does not blow directly on you. This is a general rule of where to place an air conditioner, but is especially important in a bedroom environment.

Other Features Worth Considering
– Inverter systems so they don’t run at full capacity all of the time, and use 30 per cent less energy than non-inverter systems
– A remote control so you can operate from the bed!
– An air conditioner with a sleep timer so you do not have to use the system all night, and can save money. Some even have a feature which raised the temperature gradually before switching off so there is not a sudden increase in ambient temperature when the system turns off. This decreases the likelihood of rude awakenings in the middle of the night!
